Heating Assistance Program Now Open

LIHEAP grant applications now being accepted

Pennsylvania’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) grant program is now open for the 2012-13 heating season, according to Senator Elder Vogel. Grants are based on income, family size, type of heating fuel and region.

“LIHEAP is intended to help families on limited budgets with their heating costs. We’ve seen those costs increase quite substantially over the past few years and that has strained many family budgets,” Senator Vogel said. “I urge folks to see if they are eligible to receive this assistance now before winter weather really sets in.” Eligibility guidelines for the 2012-13 LIHEAP season are set at 150 percent of the federal poverty income guidelines.

Additional information and applications for LIHEAP grants are available at Senator Vogel’s offices at 488 Adams Street in Rochester, and 301 Central Building, 101 South Mercer Street in New Castle. Applications are also available at county assistance offices, local utility companies and community service agencies. To reach County Assistance Offices for more information, Beaver County residents may call (724) 773-7495 and Lawrence County residents should call (724) 656-3021.
