The State Senate today approved a resolution introduced by Senator Elder Vogel Jr. rescinding the state’s authorization to sell the former New Castle Youth Development Center (YDC) in Shenango Township, Lawrence County.
Senate Resolution 154 repeals a section of the “Real Property Disposition Plan #1 of 2013” which authorized the Department of General Services (DGS) to sell the YDC following the closure of the facility in February 2013. The resolution now goes to the House of Representatives for consideration.
Senator Vogel said questions and concerns about the proposed sale of the property led him to introduce the resolution.
“The absence of clear financial viability and gaps in public information available to the community have raised multiple questions throughout Lawrence County regarding the qualifications of the potential owner,” Senator Vogel said.
“The bill now goes to the House of Representatives and I look forward to working with my colleagues Representative Sainato and Representative Bernstine.”
