New Castle Municipal Airport and Zelienople Municipal Airport were awarded significant state grants today (August 22) to support major capital improvement projects, according to state Senator Elder Vogel.
New Castle Municipal Airport was awarded $250,000 to complete expansion of an existing hangar and enhance security by replacing existing fencing and installing new fencing, gates, cameras and camera equipment.
Zelienople Municipal Airport was awarded $375,000 to construct a fueling facility.
“New Castle Municipal Airport and Zelienople Municipal Airport are key parts of our regional economy and they certainly will take on an even larger role in the future,” said Senator Vogel. “These grants continue the state’s investment in our community. By developing and enhancing our local airports, we give local leaders another great marketing tool to use when competing for new businesses and jobs.”
New Castle Municipal Airport and Zelienople Municipal Airport were among 23 airports across Pennsylvania sharing $8.8 million in grants during the current round of funding from the Aviation Transportation Assistance Program and Aviation Development Program.
The Aviation Transportation Assistance Program is a capital budget grant program funded with bonds. The Aviation Development Program is supported by the state’s jet fuel tax. Neither program is supported by general fund revenues.
