LOCAL AIRPORTS RECEIVE STATE GRANTS

Four local airports will receive more than $2.4 million in grants for capital improvement projects, according to state Senator Elder Vogel.

  • Beaver County Airport will receive $376,041 to remove obstructions and acquire snow removal equipment.
  • Butler County Airport will receive $1.3 million to acquire land, widen a taxiway and study the feasibility of expanding the runway.
  • New Castle Municipal Airport will receive $601,667 to rehabilitate the runway and taxiway lighting.
  • Zelienople Municipal Airport will receive $150,417 to install visual glideslope indicators to assist pilots in landing.

“Pennsylvania recognizes that smaller, regional airports are becoming more and more important and that the Commonwealth should play a role in helping them develop. These facilities are essential for economic development since they play an important role in the community as bases for business aviation,” said Senator Vogel. “By developing and enhancing these airports, we give local leaders another marketing tool to draw in new businesses and jobs.”

The local facilities were among 35 airports across Pennsylvania sharing $18 million in grants during the current round of funding.
