Beaver County rail project receives $339,500 state grant

The State Transportation Commission approved a substantial state grant on Tuesday (February 25) for a railroad improvement project in Beaver County, according to Senator Elder Vogel.

Youngstown & Southeastern Railroad Inc. was awarded a $339,500 grant from Marcellus Shale impact fees designated for distribution through PENNDOT’s Bureau of Rail Freight, Ports and Waterways. The company will use the money to rehabilitate track from the Pennsylvania border to Darlington and rebuild rail siding at NOV Tuboscope.

“This is another example of how gas drilling is benefiting Beaver County,” Senator Vogel said.  “These upgrades will continue to add to the economic growth in the area and encourage job growth in the railroad corridor.”
