Students, farms sought for dairy internship program

Applications from dairy farms and students interested in dairy farming as a career are now being accepted for the On-Farm Internship Program offered by the Center for Dairy Excellence, Professional Dairy Managers of Pennsylvania (PDMP) and Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association (PDA), according to Senator Elder Vogel, a dairy farmer and Chairman of the Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee.

Prospective interns must be students attending a Pennsylvania university, a Pennsylvania resident attending an out-of-state school, a recently graduated Pennsylvania resident or a student affiliated with a PDMP member farm with an interest in dairy production.

Participating farms are encouraged to expose interns to all aspects of a successful, progressive dairy operation to guide the students’ eventual return to dairy production.

Applications from farms and students must be submitted by January 15. More information, guidelines and applications are available online at http://centerfordairyexcellence.org/on-farm-internships/ or by contacting Emily Yeiser, dairy initiatives manager at the Center for Dairy Excellence, at (717) 346-0849 or eyeiser@centerfordairyexcellence.org.
