Local organizations share $1.4 million in Pre-K Counts grants

Organizations in Beaver and Lawrence counties will receive a total of $1,408,640 in Pre-K Counts grants for 2013-14 for pre-kindergarten programs and services, according to Senator Elder Vogel.

Governor Tom Corbett announced that 159 grantees in 59 counties will share $84.5 million in Pre-K Counts grants to provide services for nearly 12,000 children across Pennsylvania. Pre-K Counts provides half-day and full-day pre-kindergarten services to at-risk Pennsylvania children.

“It is clear that investing in early childhood education will help at-risk children succeed into adulthood,” said Senator Vogel. “Programs like Pre-K Counts not only improve the lives of children right now, but will provide savings for taxpayers into the future.”

Beaver County grant recipients will share $677,660: Ambridge Area School District, $149,340; Big Beaver Fall Area, $133,620; Hap Enterprises Inc., $91,020; Riverside Beaver County School District, $154,340; and Western Beaver County School District, $149,340.

Lawrence County’s $730,980 in Pre-K Counts grants are shared by Lawrence County Social Services Inc., $597,360, and Tender Care Learning Centers, $133,620.
