Senator Vogel lauds Blackhawk HS program at budget hearing

Urges more public-private partnerships

Speaking at a Senate Appropriations budget hearing today (March 5), Senator Elder Vogel lauded Blackhawk High School for its efforts to prepare students for job opportunities created by Marcellus Shale extraction.

Senator Vogel urged state Education Secretary Ronald Tomalis to look at the school’s program, which studies various aspects of drilling operations, as a model for other programs across the state.

Citing the elimination of state funding for the popular “Science in Motion” in the Governor’s proposed budget, Senator Vogel suggested the state look toward capitalizing on private funding in a manner similar to that used by the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau to support its five mobile agricultural labs.
