Senator Vogel Announces Railroad Grant for Aliquippa Industrial Park

Grant will Improve Rail Access on Former Steel Site

State Senator Elder Vogel, Jr. announced today that the Aliquippa Ohio River Railroad will receive $490,000 to rehabilitate and make improvements to a portion of the railroad in the Aliquippa Industrial Park. Specifically, this grant will improve two out-of-service stub end sidings that will expand track capacity on Aliquippa Ohio River Railroad. This would allow some of the businesses already located in the Aliquippa Industrial Park to expand and would add capacity for new business opportunities.

“This is more good news for the Aliquippa Industrial Park. With the economy still on soft footing, this will provide good jobs in Beaver County. Not only would this help to expand existing businesses but it makes the site even more accessible by rail. When you combine that with its close proximity to two highways and a new dock facility, this entire area is very attractive to businesses,” Vogel said.

The grant is funded through the Capital Budget/Transportation Assistance Program, which is authorized by the General Assembly with state capital bond dollars.
