Freedom Borough Receives $980,000 in State Funding

Sewer system project will curb contamination of Ohio River

The Freedom Borough Conveyance Collection Authority (FBCCA) will receive $980,000.00 in state funding to upgrade its sewer system, according to Senator Elder Vogel Jr., (R-47).

FBCCA will use the low-interest loan approved by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) today (January 26) to install 2,000 feet of sanitary sewer lines as part of a combined sewer separation project. Currently, Freedom Borough has a combined sewer system that overflows during wet weather events into the Ohio River.

“This is great news for the community,” said Senator Vogel. “This PENNVEST loan shows the seriousness of the current situation. It also shows the state’s interest in protecting the environment and improving the quality of life in Freedom. The overflow into the Ohio River not only poses a health risk, but could impact boating, fishing, and other recreational activities. We need to correct this situation as soon as possible.”
