In this Update:
Update on Cause of Recent PA 911 System OutagesThe Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) recently shared the preliminary root cause of the recent intermittent Next-Generation 911 system outages was due to a defect in an operating system which affected the system’s call delivery. A more detailed analysis of this issue and corrective measures are currently being executed. When complete, additional information that is not security-sensitive will be released. PEMA suggests as a part of your personal preparedness plan, save your county 911 center ten-digit non-emergency number on your cellphone or write it down in an easily accessible place if you have an emergency and for some reason cannot reach 911. 47th District 911 Center Contact Information Beaver County Emergency Services – 724-775-1700 Butler County PA Emergency Services – 724-287-7769 Lawrence County Emergency Management – 724-658-7485 New Businesses Now Open in Our AreaCongratulations to the following new businesses who have recently opened for business in the 47th district! Round 2 POS in Cranberry Township Another Successful Year for Local Community Events in the 47thMy staff and I enjoyed participating in several recent community events including Cranberry Days and the Community College of Beaver County’s third annual Community Day. Much work goes into making these events happen each year and they provide a great opportunity for the public to get together and learn what their community businesses have to offer. I also had a great time getting to attend Enon Valley’s Community Days, where they showed off its redone Keystone marker; the 61st Annual Horse Trading Days in Zelienople; and Seven Field’s seventh annual Beer, Wine and Music Festival. Bill to Expand Body Camera Use for Law Enforcement Passes SenateTo boost safety and accountability, the Senate passed legislation to expand the use of body-worn cameras to additional law enforcement personnel. The measure was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration. Senate Bill 520 authorizes the use of body cameras by special agents with the Office of Attorney General, rangers with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and officers and deputies with the Pennsylvania Game Commission and Fish and Boat Commission. The bill also modernizes the legal framework for body camera usage to ensure consistency in how footage is recorded and managed, regardless of the department using it. New Law Protects Users of Virtual CurrencyWe passed a new law to protect the increasing number of Pennsylvanians using virtual currency, such as Bitcoin. Act 7 of 2025 requires transmission of virtual currency to be treated similar to money transmission under state law. As more citizens use virtual currencies, the criminal element has increasingly focused on using this platform to evade prosecution. Pennsylvania will join 26 other states regulating virtual currency under their money transmitter acts so individuals can engage with virtual currencies at their own discretion with consumer safeguards in place.
