Senator Elder Vogel (R-47) issued the following statement in response to First Energy’s announced closure of the Bruce Mansfield power plant in Shippingport, Beaver County.
“Today’s news is the culmination of what has been a devastating series of announcements that have shaken our community. The closure of what was once Pennsylvania’s largest coal-fired electric generation facility will have a major negative impact not only in Shippingport, but throughout Beaver County. The loss of those jobs and the impact on those families is heartbreaking. I am calling on the Administration to bring the full resources of the Commonwealth into play to assist the displaced workers and help fill this void in our local economy. As we work together as a community through this difficult time my office stands ready to help those effected by this closure.”
